My thoughts on Love Battery's - 'Far Gone' Album.

I've been sitting in my room over the weekend, bored, with little plans, but to work on my artwork. Since turning 25 I have hit the wall of anxiety about where my life is heading and asking the question, 'why the hell haven't I succeeded yet?' I guess most people experience this in their the mid 20s, but it's a pretty horrible feeling when all you feel is the pressure of time suddenly begin to feel like it's running out. I needed some music to soothe this vibe I had going on and decided to look through my vinyl collection. I picked up Love Battery's 'Far Gone', an album I have had for a while and not put on in forever. Love Battery formed in 1989, taking their name from a song by the Buzzcocks, playing sweet sounding alternative rock that sat nicely within 90s alternative music culture. As soon as I put on the album I felt a sudden rush of euphoria. I thought to myself 'who cares, I have my whole life ahead of me, why am I worrying?'. It suddenly felt like the soundtrack for all these awkward adulthood moments where you feel in total limbo. The album could have easily featured on a soundtrack for any 90s coming of age movie. Side one of the album communicates apathetic happiness merged with bright, catchy guitar riffs from tracks such as 'Half Past You' and 'Far Gone' and imperfect yet perfect vocals that mimic the sound of despair for the post generation x throught out. There's something so very comforting with upliftingmelodies that act as a juxtaposition against your apathetic mood. Far Gone was released in 1993 on Sub Pop after the album being dumped by the major label after the album being considered disappointing following their previous album 'Dayglo' which was a hit. Apparently Sub Pop only released a rough mix of this record and the band had planned to remix it but never did. To me, I really enjoy how the album sounds. The fact that it isn't perfectly mixed mirrors how I was feeling and the content on the album. It's underrated, but well worth the listen, and it puts me in a better mood instantly.
